Absolutely! We are more than happy to accommodate children at our clinic. Our Ear Nurses are fully trained to provide care for children. However, it’s important to consider a few factors when booking an appointment for your child’s safety and comfort.

Please keep in mind that we require children to be able to follow directions and remain as still as possible during the treatment. This is necessary for their safety. In the event that the nurse determines the child is too restless or uncooperative, the treatment may be stopped for the well-being of the child. It’s important to note that in such cases, there will be a reduced consultation fee of $135.

To make an appointment for your child, simply give us a call at Crystal Clear Ears on 1300 260 750. Our friendly reception staff will be happy to assist you and book the appointment over the phone. During the booking process, we will also ask for your child’s date of birth.

Once you have made the appointment over the phone, we recommend reading the “Preparing your child for Microsuction” guide to help ensure a smooth and comfortable experience for your child.

Please note: We require that children under 16 be accompanied by a parent or guardian. For more details, please refer to our policy.

Generally, appointments are 15 – 30 minutes in duration. Occasionally, more time is needed, in which case the nurse will notify you.

Occasionally, further appointments may be required due to the level of blockage; your nurse will notify you during the appointment and discuss associated fees.

We suggest to our patients that softening the blockage is very important prior to the appointment. Softening with olive oil for 2 nights can lubricate the canal and soften wax. Our Ear Nurses prefer olive oil as a softening agent over any other softening agents in the market. However, it is important that you DO NOT apply drops if you have a hole in your eardrum or grommets.

Please Note: Don’t worry if you have been using another product or have forgotten to apply the oil; just come in for your appointment.

To apply the softening drops, follow these steps:

  1. Lie on your side and carefully fill your ear canal with olive oil drops. Make sure to fill the canal slowly to avoid airlocks and oil flooding out of the ear.
  2. Allow the oil to soak into your ear canal for about 5 minutes. This will help to soften the wax.
  3. Place a plug of cotton wool in your ear to keep the oil in place for 15-30 mins.
  4. You can repeat this process for up to 2-3 days before your appointment. Applying the drops at least once before your appointment is beneficial.

Please note:

  • If you have a hole in your eardrum or grommets, it is important NOT to use the drops.
  • The Ear Nurses prefer Olive oil drops than any over-the-counter ear wax drops.
