πŸ₯ Before the Appointment: How to Prepare

To ensure the best results, we recommend softening any earwax blockage before your visit. Applying olive oil drops for two nights can help lubricate the ear canal and make ear wax removal easier.

Our Ear Nurses prefer olive oil over other softening products, as it’s gentle and efficient.

⚠️ Important Reminder for Parents

Do not use olive oil if your child:

  • Has or has had grommets (ear tubes)
  • Has a perforated eardrum
  • Has recently had an ear infection

🧴 Step 1: Use Olive Oil Ear Drops

Softening earwax before the appointment helps loosen built-up wax, making the microsuction process easier and more comfortable.

πŸ’§ How to Apply Olive Oil to Your Child’s Ears (Gently)

  1. Gently pull your child’s earlobe down and back to open the ear canal.
  2. Use a dropper to fill the canal with olive oil, slowly, one drop at a time.
  3. Gently tug the ear outward to help the oil reach deeper.
  4. Massage around the ear to encourage oil absorption.
  5. Keep your child lying on their side for 5 minutes.
  6. Place a small piece of cotton wool in the ear opening to prevent leakage.
  7. After 15–30 minutes, remove the cotton wool.
  8. Repeat the process on the other ear.

Frequency: Once or twice daily for 2 days before the visit.

Tip: If your child struggles to sit still, you can apply the olive oil while they’re asleep.

  • If you don’t have a dropper for the oil, you can use a teaspoon instead.
  • The Ear Nurses prefer olive oil drops than any over-the-counter ear wax drops.

Important Notice for Parents

For your child’s safety, they must be able to remain as still as possible.

  • If the nurse finds your child too restless or uncooperative, the treatment may be paused or stopped.
  • In such cases, a reduced consultation fee of $135 will still apply.
