How to prepare your child for the appointment:
A ear clean for children can be stress-free with proper preparation. Applying olive oil to the affected ear for two days before the appointment helps soften and loosen earwax or blockages, making it easier for the expert Ear Nurses to gently remove it. This simple step not only ensures a more comfortable procedure but also minimises the risk of irritation or discomfort. By preparing in advance, parents can help their child feel more at ease and enhance the overall efficiency of the ear cleaning process.
Ear Clean for Children: Important Reminder:
Avoid applying olive oil to your child’s ear if they have a history of grommets or perforations in their eardrum. This precaution is essential to prevent potential complications. Consulting their healthcare provider before using any ear preparations is crucial for your child’s safety. We prioritise your child’s well-being and appreciate your cooperation in following these guidelines.

Olive oil application steps:
- If your child struggles with the application, consider doing it while they are sleeping.
- While your child is asleep, you can gently pull down and back on the ear lobe to open the ear canal.
- Fill the ear canal with olive oil and gently pull the ear outwards to ensure the oil reaches deep into the canal.
- Massage the ear to help the olive oil penetrate effectively.
- Keep your child lying on their side for 5 minutes, and place a cotton wool in the ear opening to prevent oil from leaking out.
- After 15-30 minutes, the cotton wool can be removed.
- Repeat the same procedure on the other ear.
Please keep in mind that we require children to be able to follow directions and remain as still as possible during the treatment. This is necessary for their safety. In the event that the nurse determines the child is too restless or uncooperative, the treatment may be stopped for the well-being of the child. It’s important to note that in such cases, there will be a reduced consultation fee of $135.
