We have been recognised as Business of the Year 2025. Our clinic has provided ear wax removal services using microsuction since 2008.
At Crystal Clear Ears, our story began in 2008 when Shelley Straw, a registered nurse with a background at Melbourne’s Royal Eye and Ear Hospital, recognised the growing need for improved earwax removal services. At that time, nurse-led ear clinics were virtually non-existent in Australia.
After training in New Zealand in the microsuction technique, Shelley brought her expertise home pioneering a new era of ear care in Melbourne.
From a One Nurse Practice to a Thriving Network
What began as a single-nurse clinic quickly grew. Patients shared positive experiences, and word of mouth spread rapidly. As demand increased, Shelley started training other registered nurses in microsuction.
In 2012, General Manager Tania Samaranayake joined Crystal Clear Ears with a clear vision: to establish a certified training program that ensured every Ear Nurse delivered the highest standards of care. This initiative laid the groundwork for the ear nurse–led model that continues to define and distinguish our business today.
Today, Cindy Morris carries this vision forward as our dedicated Nurse Educator. She develops training platforms, skills programs, and advanced clinical education. As a result, both current and future Ear Nurses gain the skills to provide world-class care.
The Ear Nurses at Crystal Clear Ears have multiple clinic locations across Melbourne, our dedicated Ear Nurses continue to deliver professional care for patients of all ages restoring comfort, confidence, and hearing clarity.

Sustainability and Innovation
Reducing Our Environmental Impact
We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint. Our digital first booking system cuts down on paper use, and our clinics use biodegradable and recyclable materials.
These small but meaningful steps clearly reflect our ongoing dedication to sustainability, and at the same time, they demonstrate our commitment to maintaining clinical excellence.
Resilience, Growth, and Community Trust
Post-Pandemic Recovery and Growth
After the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we therefore worked tirelessly to rebuild trust and, as a result, restore patient confidence. Over the past two years, Crystal Clear Ears has achieved steady growth in patient numbers.
To meet demand, we relocated to a larger, modern facility with additional clinical rooms and more appointment availability. This investment has resulted in exponential booking growth and higher patient satisfaction.
Our clinics maintain strong connections with the community. We work closely with GPs, hospitals, and allied health providers, who regularly refer patients to us for ear care. Children affectionately call us the “Ear Angels”, a reflection of the gentle and compassionate approach of our Ear Nurses.
